Many women feel worried and concerned when they first learn they have gestational diabetes. This photonovel reassures women and their families while teaching them what they can do to have a health pregnancy and a healthy baby. See FAQs for details.
Embarazo y diabetes was developed through a collaborative community-based process with extensive field-testing among Latinos and health professionals.
The project was funded through a Community Grant from the North Carolina March of Dimes Foundation.

What is the Teach-With-Stories Network?
The Teach-With-Stories (TWS) Network is a group
of individuals and organizations who come together in a spirit of
mutual respect and collaboration to develop and use stories in ways that promote learning, connection, and health among individuals, families, and communities.
The TWS Network is committed to strengthening health literacy and cultural competency
among individuals, communities, and systems of care. In addition, we
foster and facilitate opportunities for innovative partnerships and
socially responsible corporate citizenship.
A First Step The Pregnancy & Diabetes photonovel
embodies the TWS spirit and principles which makes it a fitting story
to start the TWS Free Publication Network.
This is only the beginning of what we can create together to draw out and sustain the wholeness
and wellness of individuals and communities!
Financial Support
National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities provided funding for the development of the free publication network prototype through an NIH Phase I Small Business Innovations Research (SBIR) grant (# 1R43MD002713-01).
