Susan Auger, president of Auger Communications, has over 25 years experience in human and organizational development. Through social work training, clinical experience in substance abuse and domestic violence, and a diverse education in philosophy, business, and law, Susan has a developed a deep insight into the dynamics that impact relationships and communication in the workplace and at home. Her work focuses on promoting the health and well-being of women, families, and communities.
As the former North Carolina State Training Coordinator for women's health, Susan became aware of the issues faced by the growing number of Latinos in the United States as well as the healthcare systems and health professionals who serve them. Now, through Auger Communications and in collaboration with her partners, Susan develops innovative, culturally appropriate programs and materials to strengthen bridges between Latino communities and healthcare systems and to improve Latinos’ access to quality care and culturally appropriate education.
Susan has served as a consultant on research projects funded by the Centers for Disease Control, the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Addiction, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Duke Endowment, and the World Health Organization, performing qualitative research activities and providing guidance to state, national, and international advisory boards. Her research interests include: participatory approaches to research, education, and grassroots advocacy; health literacy; system transformation; innovation diffusion; health disparities; and use of lay educators and group models in healthcare.
